I'm excited to share that I’ve recently started an interior design placement with the talented team at RCJ Concepts — a studio renowned for their conceptual thinking and refined commercial interiors. This opportunity has already given me a deeper appreciation of the design process from concept through to execution, and I’m eager to document this chapter as it unfolds.

As part of the placement, I’ll be getting involved in a broad range of interior design responsibilities, including:

  • Supporting interior site surveys with senior staff

  • Attending and documenting client briefings

  • Developing moodboards and concept visuals

  • Producing technical drawings and 3D models (using SketchUp, AutoCAD, Enscape)

  • Sourcing materials and FF&E

  • Preparing project budgets and timelines

  • Collaborating with designers, craftsmen, and clients to bring ideas to life

This placement is an exciting next step in my journey toward becoming a well-rounded commercial and conceptual designer — one who creates spaces with both purpose and poetry.

Week One: Jumping into a Live Project

From day one, I was welcomed into an ongoing live project, giving me the chance to contribute to a real-world design process right away. One of the highlights of my first week was attending a site visit, where I assisted with capturing existing conditions and taking notes for our design planning.

Back in the studio, I got to work producing technical drawings and early render visuals, helping translate the initial design intent into something tangible. Being hands-on with both 2D space planning and 3D modelling in my first week was a brilliant challenge and showed me just how collaborative and iterative the design process really is.
